Head of Design
The Head of Design is responsible for overseeing all design projects, ensuring that each project aligns with the client's vision and needs.
This role involves leading a team of designers, working closely with clients and other stakeholders, and ensuring that all designs meet high quality standards. The Head of Design will also play a key role in strategic planning and business development for the design firm.
Responsibilities and Duties
Oversee design projects. Oversee the planning and execution of all exhibit design projects. Ensure that each project aligns with the client's vision, goals, and budget.
Lead design team. Lead, manage, and mentor the design team. This includes assigning tasks, providing feedback, and fostering a creative and collaborative work environment.
Client relationships. Work closely with clients to understand their needs and vision. Communicate regularly with clients about the progress of projects and address any questions or concerns they may have.
Quality control. Ensure that all designs meet high quality standards and align with the client's brand and messaging.
Strategic planning. Participate in strategic planning for the design firm. This can include setting goals, developing new services, and identifying opportunities for growth.
Business development. Participate in business development activities, such as meeting with potential clients and promoting the firm's services.
Stay up-to-date with design trends. Keep up with the latest trends and technologies in exhibit design. Encourage the design team to do the same and to continually improve their skills.
Coordinate with other departments. Collaborate with other departments, such as project management and fabrication, to ensure that designs can be implemented successfully and on time.
Portfolio management. Oversee the creation and maintenance of a portfolio showcasing the firm's best work.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven experience as a Head of Design, Art Director or similar role.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent design and visual communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of exhibit design principles and practices.
- Excellent client management skills.
- Proficiency in design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to stay updated on design trends and technologies.
- Degree in Design, Visual Arts, or a related field.
Work Environment
The Head of Design typically works in an office or studio environment. This role may require additional hours to meet project deadlines or to attend client meetings. Depending on the specific project and client, there may be opportunities for on-site work during the installation of exhibits. Depending on the firm and the specifics of the role, remote work may also be possible, especially for design and planning tasks.
