Cleaning ACM Graphics

ACM graphics are a strong aluminum composite material (ACM), laminated with a clear protective layer over the printed surface. They aren't intended to be regularly touched or handled by the public, but they can resist a light level of scuffing.

Process

Wipe with a soft, lint-free cloth

That's the whole routine. Avoid abrasive cleaning supplies — they can scratch the protective layer.

Don't pick or snag the cut edges

Picking can pull up the clear protective layer and start it delaminating.

Keep liquid cleaners away from the cut edges

Liquids wick into the adhesive of the protective layer and cause delamination.

Why the edges matter

  • Clear laminate
  • Printed graphic
  • Aluminum skin
  • Composite core
  • Aluminum skin

The laminate ends at the cut edge — a fingernail or a wet cleaner can get under it there, and delamination starts.
